FAQs
Do you offer regular cakes as well as vegan cakes?
No, I’m afraid not! WhatLeilaBakes is, and has always been, a vegan bakery.
If you’re after a regular cake, I have plenty of local bakers I can recommend.
Will non-vegans enjoy a vegan cake?
I say this wholeheartedly… YES! Plenty of my customers started coming to me initially because their children had allergies or intolerances, but now they come for all occasions whether their kids have outgrown the allergies or not. Good cake is good cake… and my cake is good cake.
Do you deliver?
I offer delivery for weddings and large tiered cakes (the delivery fee is worked out based on the distance). My maximum delivery radius is 1hr 15 mins from Pontardawe.
Small celebration cakes are only available for collection from my home in Pontardawe but I do offer postage for vegan brownies/cookies.
Do you have a shop front?
No. I am a council approved food business with a five star hygiene rating that operates from my home in Pontardawe, Swansea. Everything is made to order and you will be booked in with a collection time and date when you order.
How much notice do you need to make my cake?
As much notice as possible is really helpful for me, especially during wedding season! Some dates are booked up months in advance and others I am able to squeeze things in, so it’s always worth asking. However I may not be able to do certain designs on late notice as I may not have time to order anything additional the cake may require.
Do you need a deposit?
Yes. A non-refundable £20.00 deposit is due on booking and the rest will be due a week before the cake is collected. I no longer accept payments in cash and if your order hasn’t been paid for in full a few days before the cake is due to be made (I will send a reminder so don’t worry!), I cannot make it.
How long will my cake last?
If stored correctly (instructions are provided on collection), your cake will stay fresh for up to 5 days. I would recommend avoiding designs with fresh flowers or fruit if you’re not eating your cake on the days it’s collected.
How do you handle allergies/intolerances?
I work from a home-sized kitchen and I handle nuts, sulphates, gluten and soy daily. I also use some ingredients that have “may contain” warnings on them, including eggs and dairy. These warnings are usually due to how the item has been manufactured, so sometimes there is a small chance of cross-contamination with non vegan items in the factory. Although every precaution to avoid cross-contamination is taken in my kitchen, for these reasons, I am unable to cater for severe allergies.
I can’t see the flavour of cake I’d like, can you still help?
I’m always open to requests and if I can achieve what you’re after, then I will! This may change the final cost of the cake as some ingredients are harder to come by/more costly than others.
Do you do fondant or character cakes?
I’m afraid not. I’m a buttercream gal through and through and character cakes or cakes covered in fondant icing just aren’t where my expertise lie. Having said that, I do use fondant for some cake toppers, so if you’re after something themed but are happy to have it on top of a regular round or heart shaped cake, please pop me a message and I’ll see if it’s something I can do.
